12 Self Help Gurus and Life Coaches Reveal the One Habit They Just Can't Quit

From doomscrolling and slipping into 'all-or-nothing mode' to always thinking of the 'worst case scenario', 12 women who specialise in mental and physical wellbeing share the bad habits they battle with each and every day, with the aim of demonstrating that what they say is true: nobody's perfect.

Whether it's trying to quit old habits that die hard, committing to healthier routines or taking on mind-supporting morning rituals, we all have things that we're working on. Often, though, life or mental blocks can get in the way.

As with countless things, it can be a source of great comfort to know that we're not alone. So, we spoke to some of our favourite life coaches and self-help gurus - those who have spent years training, practising, teaching and writing about self-care and personal development - and asked them to share the one thing they're still stuck on and how they're tackling it - or, equally, if they've made peace with the fact they never will.

Jessica Boston, hypnotherapist: 'Slipping into all-or-nothing mode

"When I'm overtired or something has stirred up a bit of shame in me, it's easy to slip into all-or-nothing mode. It's almost comical. It shows up in exercise or tasks:

I'll do it perfectly tomorrow, I tell myself. Tomorrow becomes this magical land where I'll be flawless, and today is written off as useless. I have to course-correct quickly to get back on track. That usually means rest and some honest reflection on what has triggered me. I'm most at the mercy of this pattern when I'm exhausted. These behaviours, and the language I use, have become cues that tell me where I am emotionally. Anytime I catch myself using binary words like 'right',

'wrong, 'perfect' or good enough', I know I've slipped into a shame space and need to return to trusting myself.

That's when I remind myself that the tiniest action today will always beat the fantasy of perfection tomorrow. All-or-nothing thinking used to be the bane of my existence, but now when I get a flare-up, I use it as a reminder of how far I've come."
