What is General Anxiety Disorder?
Seems like General Anxiety Disorder is everywhere. Almost everyone is experiencing some form of it and it’s physical symptoms. Various factors contribute but a common one is simply misunderstanding why you have it and what is going on. Basically, if your unconscious mind is fearful of an outcome it will work in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways to keep you safe.
Doing this because it holds on to information that it has from the past that a similar scenario was previously a threat. So in the moment you are high-jacked by emotion you become an older version of yourself. One that lives within you that feels not good enough, unlovable and in danger.
Those sensations are a protective mechanism that can feel like sabotage but actually they are an exaggerated physical response which shuts you down so the unconscious believes it has once again kept you from danger. You may be frustrated and miserable but you are alive god dammit!
Before working this way my clients have spent a lifetime believing their mindset is fixed and that the negative moment they find themselves in will last forever. Finally they end up with meta-anxiety. Fear of the fear of the hold their anxiety has on them. Sheesh!
Another reason this cycle can be hard to break alone is good help for combating anxiety can be hard to come by. Often first time clients have tried all sorts of different things with little success before finding me.
Finally it seals the belief that this is forever which contributes to the anxiety worsening. Hence completing the cycle and aggravating the condition. Due to this anxiety can seem impossible to leave behind BUT… don’t despair, it isn’t hopeless.
